Giuseppe was a former missionary in Africa and now works in a small diocese in Rome, but asks the Bishop if he can be transferred to a small town near Naples. He takes the place of the local parish priest, Don Antonio (Roberto Del Gaudio), a man of great charisma who is listened to and respected by all, because he’s waging a war on the illegal burial of toxic waste. Don Antonio introduces Giuseppe to the harsh reality of the local area and once he’s left on his own, the priest sets about helping the community, but finds himself facing a truth that puts his back against the wall.
